Rachel was born on April 5th, 1849 in Marissa, St. Clair County, IL. Rachel's father was John McFerron and her mother was Catherine Van Pelt. Her paternal grandparents were Andrew McFerron and Martha McDonald; her maternal grandparents were Isaac Van Pelt and Rachel Lough. She had a brother and a sister, named James and Martha. She was the oldest of the three children. She died at the age of 81 on December 30th, 1930 in El Reno, Oklahoma.
