Charles, known as the Bald, was born on June 13th, 0823 in Frankfurt, Hessen-Nassau, Prussia.  The Bald's father was Louis I ("the Pious") Holy Roman Emperor and his mother was Ermengarde de Hesbaye.  His paternal grandparents were Charlemagne Holy Roman Emperor and Hildegarde; his maternal grandfather was Count Ingerman I of Hesbaye. He had a brother and two sisters, named Louis, Princess and Adelaide.  He was the youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Lothar and Gisela.  He died at the age of 54 on October 6th, 0877 in Brides-les-Bain, Brios, France.  He was buried in St. Denis, Paris, Seine, France.
