Arnold, known as The Great, was born in 0889 in Ghent, Flanders, Belgium. The Great's father was Count Baudouin II ("the Bald") of Flanders and his mother was Aelfthryth. His paternal grandparents were Count Baudouin I ("Iron Arm") of Flanders and Princess Judith of France; his maternal grandparents were King Alfred ("the Great") of Wessex and Ealhswith of the Gaini. He was an only child. He died at the age of 75 on March 27th, 0964.General Notes
